Solkane® 141b has no flash point and is, therefore, classified as a non flammable liquid. However, similar to chlorinated solvents, any contact of Solkane® 141b with powerful sources of ignition (naked flames, hot surfaces, electric arcs) must be avoided; when carrying out “hot work” such as welding and cutting, any vapours of Solkane® 141b must be avoided. A separate technical leaflet is available on request.
The toxicology of Solkane® 141b has been extensively studied under the PAFT program (PAFT standing for Program for Alternative Fluorocarbon Toxicity Testing). All the results available to date show that the product is safe for industrial applications, provided that the recommended normal hygiene practices and safety rules are observed.
The Material Safety Data Sheet is available on request.
Solvay recommends an Acceptable Exposure Limit (AEL) of 500 ppm (8 h/d).
