   Solkatherm® SES36 - Safety Information

Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
Consult the appropriate MSDS for more detailed information. Specific chemical handling and storage precautions are also outlined in the MSDS, with a list of the main chemical-physical characteristics of Solkatherm® SES36. The MSDS will also have specifications for appropriate personal protective equipment for workers’ protection, with a list of the known toxicological values of the fluid.

Charging Advice
Due to its good compatibility properties, Solkatherm® SES36 can be handled with most pumps without damaging either the fluid or the pump. It is also possible to pressurise Solkatherm with Nitrogen, but in this case it is important to take into consideration a certain solubility of the gas in the fluid, that may lead to have incondensable gases into the system. In any case, do not pressurise with air or oxygen.

General Safety Aspect
Handling of Solkatherm® SES36 - Safety equipment:

The contents of opened vessels may escape in a liquid or gaseous form. This process is not violent with Solkatherm because of its low vapour pressure.
Nevertheless, safety equipment can effectively protect the human body. This equipment should be worn in order to safeguard health when working with Solkatherm®.

  • Eye protection
Safety goggles must be worn when handling Solkatherm. These goggles will prevent the liquid from coming into contact with eyes and prevent damage.
  • Hand protection
Solkatherm may dissolve grease and oil. If they come into contact with the skin, it removes the protective film of grease and makes the contact area sensitive to cold and infection. Suitable safety gloves such as those made from PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) will provide adequate protection.
  • Breathing protection
If high concentrations of Solkatherm vapour are inhaled, it displaces the oxygen that is required for breathing. A risk of asphyxiation appears.
High concentrations can be prevented by ventilating the workplace. Attention for threshold limit values must be paid.

Do not smoke while handling Solkatherm® SES36. It is neither flammable nor toxic, but the high temperature that the cigarette reaches during inhalation will decompose Solkatherm vapours into very toxic substances.
