Glass manufacturing can obtain special quality effects by using inorganic fluorides such as cryolite synth. powder and ammonium bifluoride, or organic intermediates from the CF3 product line, such as trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) and trifluoroacetic acid ethyl ester (TFAEt).

The use of cryolite synth. powder as an opacifying agent results in special aesthetic effects such as milk glass, out of which perfume flasks or lampshades can be made. |

Ammonium bifluoride can be used for frosting or matting glass surfaces. Trifluoracetic acid and trifluoracetic acid ethyl ester have recently been discovered for their insulating affects when used in glass surface treatment. |
